Georgia man arrested on child molestation charge

An elderly man was recently arrested after a reported incident in a retail store. According to authorities, the 75 year-old man was observed touching a minor in an inappropriate manner in a Georgia Wal-Mart. The action was reported by the child's mother, who was nearby and reportedly witnessed the incident. The man was arrested soon thereafter, charged with child molestation, and is being held without bond.

The man's adult children, a son and daughter, attended his bond hearing and informed the judge that the man suffers from several physical ailments, including Alzheimer's Disease. Further investigation revealed that the man was arrested in 2011 upon a similar complaint and had been released by authorities on the contingency that he would not be allowed to frequent areas in which children might be present unless he was supervised.

Not guilty pleas in Georgia schools cheating case

In a high-profile case involving Atlanta public school educators, four defendants have entered pleas of not guilty. They have additionally waived formal arraignment. A total of 35 professionals are facing charges of federal crimes in the scandal. Additionally, prosecutors in the case indicate that an ongoing investigation may result in further educators being charged. Meanwhile, the attorneys for the former superintendant have moved for dismissal of charges against their client.

Representation is proving to be a challenge in the case as some lawyers working on behalf of more than one of the individuals involved have been informed that they will not be permitted to represent more than one of the individuals charged. This leaves little time to make alternate arrangements before the May 18 arraignment date. As tips continue to be received, the prosecutors emphasize the possibility of additional charges.

Atlanta drug courier arrested in NC sting

An Atlanta, Georgia man was arrested for his alleged role as a drug courier in Boone, North Carolina, as part of a sting operation between the Boone Police Department and the Ashe County Sheriff's Office. The man has been arrested for drug-related crimes in connection with this investigation and is currently being held on a $75,000 bond.

The investigation allegedly uncovered information that a trafficker from Atlanta was scheduled to make a large delivery of methamphetamines to a location in Boone. Officers were placed in covert undercover operational positions to intercept the shipment with the help of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security. The operation also utilized a K-9 unit supplied by the Boone Police. The dog alerted officers to the presence of drugs inside a vehicle, and about .5 pounds of crystal meth was recovered, with a street value of approximately $22,000. The alleged trafficker was charged with two counts of trafficking methamphetamines.

Two bouncers in Atlanta club injured in car crash

Two men were hospitalized recently after a car crashed into an Atlanta nightclub. The driver, who ultimately received a drunk driving charge, was operating a 1967 Chevy Camaro on Flat Shoals Avenue and allegedly tried to do a "burnout" when he lost control and slammed into two light poles before coming to rest against the side of a club. The car pinned two bouncers against the building in the crash.

The driver allegedly tried to hide in a nearby vacant lot but was arrested for DUI and hit-and-run by authorities. Both victims suffered non-life threatening injuries, and the driver was also taken to the hospital with an injured foot.

Georgia man accused of child sex crimes

A 40-year-old Social Circle man was arrested on child pornography charges after images were allegedly found on his computer. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation allegedly tracked the images to the accused man's computer during an investigation of child sex crimes on information received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The information the police were given stated that an individual in Georgia was distributing child pornography via the internet. The GBI allegedly used the man's IP address to determine the location of the distribution site and secured a warrant to search the man's home and computer activity.

The search warrant was obtained through the Internet Crimes Against Children or ICAC Task Force. The GBI Athens office, Social Circle Police Department, Monroe Police Department and the federal bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were also involved in executing the warrant.

Georgia woman arrested for DUI crash

A Conyers woman was arrested and charged with DUI and serious injury by a motor vehicle on March 22 after a head-on crash on Georgia Highway 20 North. The drunk driving arrest took place after the 26-year-old woman allegedly crossed the center line and striking a 39-year-old driver's car.

The victim sustained several injuries including a broken arm. She was transported by ambulance to an area hospital after the crash. The victim informed officers that the driver who hit her was swerving across both lanes of traffic prior to the crash.

Driver charged with possession after deadly wreck

A 27-year-old Georgia man is facing numerous charges related to an accident in which his SUV allegedly struck another vehicle and killed two people. He may be guilty of drug-related crimes from a sting operation that allegedly uncovered cocaine in his hotel room as well as charges of hit-and-run and two counts of vehicular homicide.

Police say that they were conducting a sweep of the neighborhood when they found cocaine in the suspect's hotel room. He allegedly rammed a squad car and fled in a panic in his vehicle. Police later discovered that the suspect had allegedly struck a car that had six occupants. Two of them, a 57-year-old grandmother and her 3-year-old granddaughter, were pronounced dead at the scene, and four others were taken to the hospital with injuries. The driver of the car, who is 17 years old, has multiple serious injuries, including a ruptured spleen.

Man charged with trafficking drugs from Georgia

A man faces life in prison after being convicted of drug trafficking. The drug charges came about when U. S. Marshals sought the 40-year-old man on charges of violating parole stemming from a trafficking conviction in Georgia. When the police entered the home where the male was living in Phenix City, Alabama, they found a loaded shotgun, marijuana and scales.

After recovering these items, the police obtained a search warrant and found a large quantity of crack cocaine, powder cocaine, marijuana, $5,000 in cash and another substance that was said to be similar to Ecstasy, a popular recreational drug. The man was found guilty of trafficking and will be sentenced soon. U. S. Attorneys stated that the man could receive a life sentence for his crimes.

Hit-and-run suspect surrenders in Athens

A 22-year-old man suspected of committing a hit-and-run that caused critical injuries to a pedestrian has surrendered to authorities. The suspected has been charged with drunk driving, leaving the scene, open container, reckless driving and failure to maintain proper lane in the accident.

The victim, a 19-year-old girl, remains in critical condition in a coma. The suspect surrendered after a two-week manhunt for the driver accused of causing the crash. The accident occurred when the young woman, who is from Woodstock, was walking on the grassy verge of Oak Street with a friend. She was visiting Athens for a friend's birthday. A pickup truck struck her from behind, and then sped off. The truck was found abandoned at an apartment complex on Appleby Drive with a liquor bottle and empty beer cans inside.

Former WNBA player indicted for shooting

Former Women's National Basketball Association star and winner of an Olympic gold medal Chamique Holdsclaw is facing charges for her role in a November 2012 shooting that took place in Atlanta. The former basketball star will be faced with preparing a criminal defense against charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a felony and criminal damage.

The charges stem from an argument between Holdsclaw and her ex-girlfriend, also a basketball player. The suspect allegedly broke windows in the victim's car and shot at the vehicle. No one was injured in the incident. Holdsclaw's attorney has been attempting to talk with the victim and resolve the matter. The attorney stated he did not have knowledge of any indictments against his client.
